The 2016 Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon will be held on Friday, January 22nd.

The Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2016, also known as the Dubai Marathon, is in the 16th edition of the renowned event, under the patronage of Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Since 2016 is an Olympic year, the elites will be out in full force.
Look out for Ayele Abshero, who holds the course record, and two-time London Marathon winner Tsegaye Kebede. In the women’s division, two former Dubai Marathon champs Mamitu Daska and Tirfi Tsegaye will be looking to take the title.

The start and finish of the Marathon and 10km will be on the Umm Suqeim Road opposite the Madinat Jumeirah and in the shadow of the iconic Burj Al Arab.
Both these starts will be at the Madinat Jumeirah end of Umm Suqeim Road.
The 4km will start on Al Wasl Road adjacent to the Al Jalila Foundation. All the finishes will be at the Dubai Police Academy end of Umm Suqeim Road.

There will be three races: the classic marathon of 42 km at 7 am, which is open to 18 years age, the 10km which is open to 15 years and the 4 km race that is open to all ages.

Since 2000 the Marathon has achieved great enthusiasm in locals and foreign people reaching more and more local and international sponsors such as:

Dubai Marathon: run for a greater cause, run for charity

The run incorporates fund raising for various charities and causes such as the ‘Seeing is believing’ campaign, in association with The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), for avoidable blindness as well as Al Jalila Foundation.

In addition to “Just Giving” a social fundraising platform that collects 164 countries and raises over $3.3 billion for good causes worldwide.

And if all of this is not enough for you keep in mind that the prize money for the winners range from USD 8,000 to USD 200,000!
