UAE 44th National Day: Emiratis and expats patriotism

National Day, known in Arabic as Al-Eid Al Watani, is a national holiday that takes place on December 2nd but the celebration started from the end of November with several activities conducted all over the emirates to mark this auspicious event.

UAE National Day is an annual day of celebration to commemorate the Emirates’ independence from Great Britain, with many of the city’s leading monuments opening their doors to the public and putting on special events throughout the day. National Day is a celebration of honor, pride and patriotism.

The UAE is driven to do always more and better; this is the day in which the UAE brags in front of the world.

Over the past few days, UAE residents have joined hands to commemorate the upcoming UAE National Day which fell on December 2nd. And, it’s not just the UAE citizens who are feeling patriotic; many expatriates, too, have been adorning their homes and cars with the colours of the UAE flag. Keep in mind that 7.8 million are expatriates.

 

UAE 44th National Day: the events

 

At Emirates Group

Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline & Group, commemorated National Day with a cake-cutting ceremony at the Group’s Headquarters, which was followed by local Emirati dance performances.

 

At Emirates Flight Catering

Staff gathered at lunch tasting a special menu that focused on local flavors and they sampled traditional Emirati dishes.
Emirates SkyCargo and Emirates Engineering captured the special day with staff raising the UAE flag besides an Emirates B747-400F and a recently-delivered Emirates A380.

 

At the Dubai Mall

The UAE flag colours were projecting onto the mall’s Waterfall, allowing visitors to take souvenir shots.
Complimentary face painting and UAE-themed nail art and beauty were available in stores across the mall.

Dubai Mall also held on Tuesday a Kids Parade where Emirati children dressed in UAE flag colours marched through the ground floor singing the national anthem and other patriotic songs.
The Dubai Police Band will perform outside the entrance to the Waterfront Promenade.

 

At the Hamdan Bin Mohammad Smart University (HBMSU)

HBMSU started its day-long event with a moment of silence for UAE martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty to restore peace in Yemen. This was followed with the raising of the UAE flag and the singing of the national anthem. Faculty members, administrators and learners reaffirmed their commitment to excellence and to values of the ‘Spirit of the Union.’

 

At the University Hospital Sharjah (UHS)

UHS organized an event to jointly mark Commemoration Day (November 30th) and National Day.
The celebration began with the UAE national anthem performed by the Sharjah Police scout team and included heritage activities like traditional UAE food and drink.
